ThoughtSpot documentation site redesign

The new ThoughtSpot documentation site introduces the following features:

  • New navigation structure

  • New search features

  • Updated visual design to match the ThoughtSpot brand

New navigation structure

The navigation of the ThoughtSpot documentation site has been redesigned to more closely reflect the structure of the ThoughtSpot product itself.

It is organized into top-level sections that correspond to a part of the ThoughtSpot product UI or a common documentation need.

Release notes

A dedicated section for release notes across ThoughtSpot Cloud versions, including what’s new, resolved issues, and deprecation notices.

Getting started

Introductory topics to help new users and administrators set up and begin using ThoughtSpot.

Spotter Agents

Documentation for Spotter, ThoughtSpot’s AI-powered analytics agents. This is a top-level section because Spotter is one of the most commonly used features by business users.

Insights

Documentation for business users working with Liveboards, Answers, and other analytics content in ThoughtSpot. This section contains content previously found in ThoughtSpot for Business Users.

Data workspace

Documentation for data engineers and analysts building models, managing connections, and working with data objects in ThoughtSpot. This section contains content previously found in ThoughtSpot for Data Engineers and ThoughtSpot for Analysts.

Administration

Documentation for administrators managing users, groups, authentication, application settings, and system activities. This section contains content previously found in ThoughtSpot for IT and Ops.

Reference

A dedicated section for reference information including keyword reference, formula reference, API reference, and other technical specifications.

Help and support

A dedicated section for information on the various ways to get help with ThoughtSpot including contacting ThoughtSpot support experts. It also covers how administrators can customize the help menu with company-specific links and documentation.

Why we made this change

The previous persona-based structure required users to identify themselves as a particular type of user before finding the right content. In practice, many ThoughtSpot users work across multiple areas of the product.

The new structure removes this friction. Because the documentation sections now more closely align with the ThoughtSpot application’s navigation, you can move between the product and its documentation without having to re-orient yourself. If you are working in the Data workspace tab in ThoughtSpot, the corresponding documentation is in the Data workspace section of the help site.

Spotter Agents has its own top-level section in the navigation, so business users can find the information with fewer clicks.

What changed

Previously, the documentation site was organized around personas which aligned with broad user types such as Business User, IT and Ops, and Data Engineers and Analysts. The new navigation aligns more closely with the ThoughtSpot user interface (UI), so the documentation you need is always where you expect to find it based on where you work in the product.

New search features

Enhanced traditional search

You can now open the search menu instantly with a single keyboard shortcut:

  • Cmd + K on Mac

  • Ctrl + K on Windows and Linux

Once the search menu is open, use Up (↑) and Down (↓) arrow keys to move through results, then press Enter to go to the page for a specific result. No clicks required.

You can also close the search menu by pressing Esc.
