Spotter

Introducing Spotter, our new AI-powered, unified conversational search experience. This feature replaces the previous Sage search experience. When enabled, you can enter the Spotter interface from the Spotter module on the Home page, or by clicking Spotter on any visualization pinned to a Liveboard.

You can ask successive questions to hone in on business insights, open a preview of the underlying data, drill down, edit or undo changes to the resulting AI-generated Answers, see what terms Spotter changed from answer to answer, and submit feedback on the answers received. Analysts can also coach Spotter to guide Spotter’s interpretations from the Data Workspace. To enable Spotter, contact your administrator.

Access Spotter from the Home page Ask a business question in natural language module, or by hovering over a visualization in a Liveboard and clicking Spotter.

Spotter for Liveboards will not be enabled on the following:

  • Visualizations created using data sources or Worksheets which are not AI-enabled.

  • Visualizations using multiple data sources.

  • Visualizations of the note tile or headline chart type.

Spotter configurations

To enable Spotter for your cluster, an administrator must first enable Spotter in the Admin panel, then assign user groups with Spotter privileges. To enable Spotter on Liveboards, the underlying data source must also have Spotter enabled.

Enable Spotter for a cluster

To enable Spotter for a cluster, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Admin panel, either by clicking on the Admin button in the top menu or by selecting Admin from the app switcher icon.

  2. Select ThoughtSpot AI from the left menu. Note that if your cluster has orgs enabled, you should look under the All orgs section rather than the Primary org section.

  3. Under ThoughtSpot Ask AI experience, enable the following settings:

    • AI Answers

    • AI Answers on Liveboard

    • New Spotter Experience

New Spotter Experience rebrands the former Sage (AI Answers) and Ask Sage (AI Answers on Liveboard) features to Spotter. Note that you can still use Sage and Ask Sage when the New Spotter experience is disabled, but you will not be able to ask follow-up questions in the Sage module.

Enable Spotter for a user group

To give Spotter privileges to a certain user group, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Admin panel, either by clicking on the Admin button in the top menu or by selecting Admin from the app switcher icon.

  2. If your cluster has Orgs enabled, navigate to the Primary org tab in the left menu and select Groups under User management. Otherwise, select Groups under User management.

  3. Select the name of the desired user group to open the Edit group pop-up.

  4. Scroll to the Roles section and select the checkbox next to the can preview thoughtspot sage privilege. Click Update.

Enable Spotter for a Liveboard

In order for users to access Spotter on a Liveboard visualization, the underlying data source must be enabled for Spotter. To enable a Worksheet or Model for Spotter, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Data workspace, either by selecting Data in the top menu bar or by selecting Data workspace from the app switcher icon.

  2. Select the Worksheet or Model from the list in the Data Workspace.

  3. Click the More icon more menu icon in the upper right corner and select Enable Spotter.

If Spotter is disabled on a certain Worksheet or Model, users will still see the Spotter icon on visualizations built on any dependent Liveboard. Clicking Spotter will result in an error message prompting users to ask an admin to turn on AI features for the data source.
